Gambling business flourished in one of the colonies of Kazakhstan

In Kazakhstan, the former head of the penal colony in Shymkent was put on trial. Lieutenant Colonel Aytzhan Bakirov, 38, is suspected of organizing gambling in the colony in 2013. The illegal gambling business flourished in prison for over a year.
During the investigation, it was established that Aytzhan Bakirov was involved in organizing a criminal group in the prison, whose members organized gambling for prisoners for money bets. Four years ago, all members of this criminal group were imprisoned, some of them actively cooperated with the investigation, after which the law enforcement officers went to the head of the Shymkent colony.
The investigation accuses the former head of the colony under several articles of the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan. He is accused of negligence and fraud, abuse of his powers as the head of the colony, and the creation of an organized criminal group (OCG).
