Hard Rock in Court Fighting for License to Build a Casino Resort in Greece

Hard Rock International is confident that it will win a court appeal against the Greek Gaming Commission’s decision to remove a hotel and casino operator from the race for a license to develop a casino resort at a defunct airport near Athens.

The Greek gambling regulator earlier this year licensed another US casino and hospitality company, Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment. The license allows the gaming and hotel operator to build a € 1 billion casino resort within a larger complex, dubbed Hellinikon, on the site of the former Hellinikon International Airport, near the Greek capital.

As mentioned above, Hard Rock was disqualified from the casino license race, and the company has appealed against this decision. His appeal had previously been rejected by the Greek Gambling Commission and the Pre-Appeals Authority. Greece’s Supreme Administrative Court is due to consider the appeal today. Hard Rock spokesman Michael Karlautsos told local media that the company would eventually win the competition for Hellinikon.
