Yokohama expands staff to promote Casino Resort

Authorities in the Japanese city of Yokohama are expanding their staff, which the city has commissioned to organize one of Japan’s first integrated casino resorts, as the country seeks to tap into the Las Vegas / Macau-style gaming sector to increase international visits. The city authorities intend to increase the number of people in their IR promotion office to 39 from 25 starting April 1, casinonewsdaily.com reports.
The office is affiliated with the Bureau of Urban Development and is responsible for everything related to Yokohama’s application for hosting an integrated resort. The addition of more staff to promote a comprehensive application for a resort in Yokohama is further evidence of how seriously the city is considering securing the right to host this type of property.
Japan’s second largest city announced it will race to host the country’s first integrated casino gaming resorts last summer. The announcement immediately caught the attention of a number of major gaming and hospitality companies that had previously looked for development opportunities in Osaka. Las Vegas Sands, Melco Resorts & Entertainment and Wynn Resorts have scrapped plans in Osaka in favor of a potential expansion in Yokohama.
